Robert Grosseteste says:
“In love of Christ himself, to the teacher Adam Rufus: Your sweet flowing love asked me, to what extent I should write to you, what I think about this word: God is the first form and the form of everything. I did so to the extent that I was able, not as I wanted, preferring to offer to an entreating friend what little I had, than to seem to refuse what I was thought to have in abundance. Nevertheless, concerning such a thing, nothing is actually capable of being meager, although through the meagerness of the speaker it may not be grandly spoken about, and due to the meagerness of our speaker, it cannot be grandly spoken about.”
