English Etymology: Roots

I answer that we must say that there are three opinions on this. For some concede simply and absolutely that the sin of the angel came simply from the fact that he wanted to be equal to God. It does not hinder them that this is impossible, for according to Augustine, blind ambition always presumes more than it is capable of.

The Latin root cap- means “take, grasp,” and gives us many English words – even the word “catch” is from this root. Sometimes this root takes the form cep- or cip-.
