After she had taken communion, when she had returned to her private quarters, the Lord showed himself to her in the form of a pelican, just as it is usually portrayed, piercing its heart with its beak. And when she said, marveling at these things, "Of what do you strive to persuade me, my Lord, through this appearance?", Dominus respondeit: "ut consideres quam inaestimabilibus amoris stimulis compulsus hoc tam praenobile donum porrigo: quod si incongruum non esset ad dicendum, post hoc donum magis eligerem mortuus remanere quam hoc donum ab amante anima continere. Insuper etiam consideres quam excellenti modo anima tua sumpto hoc dono vivificatur in vitam aeternaliter permanentem: sicut pulliculus pellicani vivificatur ex sanguine cordis paterni." |
