Gertrude the Great

On Grace

Introduction by Ruth Meyer

Gertrude the Great says: "Behold, most loving Lord, the gift of your most worthy intimacy, given to me though I am most undeserving on account of my great worthlessness; through love of your love, for the reward of praising you, as much in what I have already written as in what I will write next I explain this. For, as I surely hope, I dare to confess in certitude about your grace, that never any cause compelled me to write or say such things, excepting only the assent of your will, and the desire of praising you, and the zeal of souls."
