Infinitives

The infinitive, the second principal part of a verb, is considered a verbal noun.  It is generally translated in English with the word  "to" and the verb; hence:  amare = to love, habere = to have, dormire = to sleep.  Infinitives have both active and passive forms and are found in the present, perfect and future tenses, although the future passive infinitive is exceedingly rare in Latin.
