Huius quatuor sunt genera. Unum viuum quod cum foditur, translucet atque viret, quo solo inter omnia genera medici ununtur, ut dicit Isidorus. Alterum quoque appellant glebam, quod tantum familiare usibus est fullonum. Tertium liquor est, cuius usus est ad lanas utilis suffundendas, quoniam praestat mollitiem et candorem. Quartum valet ad licinia lucernarum conficienda, ut dicit Isidorus.
Ordinal Numbers
Unlike the cardinal (or “counting”) numbers, which in Latin are mostly not declined, the ordinal numbers (“first,” “second,” etc.) are declined like regular adjectives of the first/second declension. The most common ordinals are primus, secundus, tertius, quartus, etc. However, secundus is sometimes replaced by alter, as in the text above.
