On the Cat

Latin Etymology

Nam videmus simias offensas parare insidias hominibus, et multa ordinare ad hoc ut sequantur vindictam; et ideo colligunt unum quod intendunt ex multis. Videmus etiam araneas ordinare telam, et non quocunque modo sed per varias texturas geometricas, ut musce involvantur de facili.

The verb colligere is actually a compound of con- and ligere. The prefix con- has the basic meaning "together." The con- prefix is very prevalent both in Latin and English. Which of the following English words do and do not utilize Latin's con- prefix? Note that the prefix assimilates it's last consonant according to the first letter of the verb or noun.
